August Birth Flowers
August has two monthly flowers, the Gladiolus and the Poppy.
the Gladiolus is a tall flower, with a height of 24″ to 48″ tall and flower with a stem full of beautiful flowers that bloom in a full range of colors from white to dark purple. While the corms need to be pulled up in the northern areas of the United States, these beautiful and stately flowers are well worth the effort. They make gorgeous cut flowers and are some of the most beautiful border flowers there are.
The Poppy is the other August birth month flower. What are poppies? That is a much more complex question than you might think. They can be tiny flowers that grow about 2″ tall, or the flowers can grow to about 5 feet tall. They come in bush form, evergreen, or can be annual or perennial flowers. They come in a wide range of colors as well.
August has two birthstones, the Peridot and the Spinel.
The Peridot is an olivine gemstone with a green color. The depth of the color depends on the amount of iron present in the stone. Peridot is said to balance emotions, inspire creativity, as well as bringing good health, good sleep, and balances relationships.
The Spinel is another August birthstone. The Spinel is a gemstone that ranges in color from Red to purple to pink, even clear, yellow, or blue. It is a very hard gem that has been confused with rubies in the past until it was proven to be a different red gemstone altogether. In fact, some of the crown jewels that were thought in the past to be rubies are actually Spinels. the spinel is thought to contain healing energies and reenergize all different aspects of self. Spinels are thought to give you strength to overcome obstacles and give strength of self.
